The beach of Muizenberg is about more than the endless stretches of white sand, the azure waters that lap these shores, and the high African skies overhead. It is about the thrill of watersports, the wonder of the sharks and whales that skirt these shores, the rich history that lines the coast in gorgeous architecture and old buildings, and the tangible vibe of the local community. Muizenberg is special.

It is this combination of stunning assets that has prompted the Muizenberg Moonlight Meander, which happens on the Saturday closest to the full moon (just about every month). At 18h00, a group of locals and visitors that want to celebrate the splendour of this part of the Western Cape coastline head out for a leisurely beach walk. Listen to the waves rolling and crashing onto the sand, breathe in the salt spray, and enjoy the cool light of the full moon as it bathes Muizenberg and the ocean.

The walk starts in front of the Knead Bakery and is ideal for families with little ones, couples looking to share a romantic stroll, or colleagues that need time-out from the rat race to work on their team building.

This is an initiative of Safer Together - a group of volunteers that arrange these kinds of events for families in the local community to enjoy. This helps everyone to get to know one another and learn how they can contribute to a happier, safer community. Although the event / walk is free to join, voluntary donations are most welcome and funds are distrubuted to local projects (you can find out all about these during the walk).

After your walk, head off to one of the local restaurants in the area or retreat back to your accommodation in Muizenberg, Kalk Bay or Fishhoek for dinner, or go back to the City Bowl of Cape Town, just 20 minutes away.
