Just outside Napier, en route to Bredasdorp, is wonderful old Cape Dutch style farmhouse with a red roof. To one side stands the red windmill from which it gets its name. It doesn't have blades but that is not important.

What is important is that you take the time to stop here. Because it is so much more than simply a farmstall.

Four independent shops under the Red Windmill form a collaboration: you stop here for tea, breakfast and lunch - where you can eat delights like peanut clusters, cranberry crunchies, short bread and pumpkin cake' there is a vintage clothing store called Mrs Robinson's; a shop selling the usual farmstall things like free range eggs but appetisers like Galettes get an added twist like caramelised pears, camembert and toasted pumpkin seeds; and there is a nursery tacked on to the side of the rambling house.

In between are a couple of nooks that serve as lounges, one of which has its own working gramophone, and old-fashioned pink or turquoise kitchen units filled to bursting with jams, teas, pies, breads and quiches.

And Sundays almost always include a country lunch that might be something along the lines of roast leg of Springbok stuffed with dates, nuts and organic red figs from the garden. But you will need to book, because those who live in Napier, or the local bridge club, Hermanus Classic car club, Triumph motorcycle club may get there before you.

Did we mention: the Alpacas, the free WiFi, and the labyrinth?
