About Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons
First established in 1690, the French Huguenot farm of Fredericksburg is home to Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons and lies on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. The terroir and climate of this region attracted many settlers who began planting vineyards and which resembles many of the famous wine regions in France. Yvonne Lester is the Head Winemaker whose grandfathers both worked in the wine industry inspired her career path.
The Winemaker and Cellar Master is Clive Radloff whose first harvest with Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons was in 1998. He also comes with vast experience on wine estates in Bordeaux and Italy. Their range includes multiple vintages of Rupert & Rothschild Baroness Nadine which is an elegant and inviting barrel-fermented Chardonnay with refreshing citrus aromas with pineapple, Rupert & Rothschild Baron Edmond- a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc with vibrant cherry notes, balanced cedar wood and rich dark chocolate flavours and Rupert & Rothschild Classique which is young and vibrant with raspberry aromas, blueberry flavours, roasted pine nuts and a dark chocolate aftertaste.
To view more wine estates in the region see Franschhoek Wine Estates or see South Africa Wine Estates for a general overview and links to other wine producing regions.
