Schalk Burger and Sons, Welbedacht Wine Estate In Wellington is simply somewhere you must visit. A fantastic atmosphere which is also relaxed has been created here. Every detail of the estate and the wines produced within are of a fantastic quality.

Welbedacht is found in the stunning area of Wellington where wine cultivation is at its best. This beautiful farm offers breathtaking views and a great farm style feel. It is also home to the Burger family, one of the country's most recognized sporting names. Welbedacht was bought in 1997, the farm dates back to the 1830's and was in need of a little TLC. Welbedacht means ”well thought out” in Dutch, and this is precisely how the Burger family approached the extensive restoration of this gracious property to its previous glory.

The grapes are specially selected and hand-harvested with plenty of hands-on devotion during the vinification process. In 2000, Schalk Sr decided to pursue his dream of producing his very own range of wines. Four years passed before permission was granted for the building of the cellar and tasting room. The unique cellar has been carefully designed to meet the winemaking team's exacting standards. The new cellar, which has capacity for 1200 tons, was first used for the 2005 harvest.
