About Sparks Bay Day Camp

Sparks Bay Day Camp is one of three sections of one long beach - Kogel Bay beach - an almost 2 km sandy beach along Clarence Drive, just beyond Gordon's Bay.

The other two sections of the beach are Klippies Bay Day Camp Beach and Kogel Bay Beach.

Sparks Bay Day Camp, if you can manage it out of season, is one of the most beautiful spots on the coast. The shoreline is littered with stones, the sound of the sea slapping them against one another a constant background noise, whilst the view across the bay to Rooi Els and Hangklip is one of the Cape's most famous.

The site is divided into two. As you drive in you can continue past ablutions and choose from any number of braai and picnic sites, or you can take a left to a smaller area favoured by fishermen, but which settles you on the edge of the bay and is potentially less crowded.

During the week, the site is peaceful and all yours.

Directions
To find Sparks Bay leave Gordon's Bay and drive the R44, Clarence Drive, beyond Kogel Bay beach and campsite, where you can also braai and picnic but which involves a camping fee to enter.

Best time of year:
Those incredible warm, windless winter days when everyone has forgotten that baais are potentially better when it's cool.

Look out for:
Whales (August/September); the tidal pool beyond the ablutions and on some.

Take with you:
Braai grid and braai paraphernalia; your own toilet roll.
