About Vrede en Lust Wine Estate
Vrede en Lust is derived from Dutch for ‘Peace and Eagerness' and was founded in 1688 by French Huguenot, Jacques de Savoye, and by 1691 had planted over 80 000 vines on the hills of the Simonsberg by 1780. It was then purchased by the Buys family in 1996 and replanted noble wine grape cultivars throughout the farm.
The modern winery was built in time for the 2002 harvest and each year in March, harvest is celebrated and named ‘De Savoye Day' to honour the original owner of the estate.
There is a wonderful 6 course tasting menu at Cotage Fromage Country Bistro and Deli on the estate especially for wine and food lovers. It has been rated as serving one of the Top-10 cheese platters in South Africa by EatOut. The foundations of the Vrede en Lust Manor House dates back to 300 years and after a fire, it was restored in the 1950's. Relax in this 4-star house which can be rented out with a butler and chef. Or stay in one of two guest cottages which form part of ‘Jonkmanshuis'. You won't run out of things to do as the pool house has a bar, dining area, steam bath and jacuzzi and you can enjoy your wine in the garden beside the pool.
