About Warwick Wine Estate
After the Anglo Boer war, Colonel William Alexander Gordon of the Warwickshire regiment settled on a farm in 1912. He dubbed it Warwick, but it was only when Stan and Norma Ratcliffe bought it in 1964 that the first vine was planted; Cabernet Sauvignon. Intrigued by the art of wine making, Norma acquired more knowledge in Bordeaux and in 1984 made her first wine. The Warwick Trilogy was based on a typical Bordeaux blend and goes down well with food.
The first wine ever made on the estate was a Cabernet Sauvignon, which is why the Warwick Cabernet Sauvignon is named First Lady. In 2010, the estate produced their Sauvignon Blanc which is called Professor Black, after the Professor Black peach orchard that was replaced with the Sauvignon Blanc vines.
Experience any of their wines with one of Warwick's gourmet picnic baskets courtesy of chef Mark Springhorn. Sit in their picnic facilities with views of the lake, mountains and scattered trees. This is no ordinary picnic; expect warm ciabatta, camembert, salmon, salads and chocolate brownie with white chocolate ganache. Take a trip on the Big Five Wine Drive Safari where guests are taken up through the vineyards in a jeep to spot fish eagles, falcons and ‘Big Five' (five types of wine grapes that is planted on the farm).
