In Wellington, a wine-making region that needs little introduction, next to the famous Bainskloof pass and surrounded by the mountains of Hawequa and Groenberg you can find the Majestic Welvanpas wine farm. The farm is abounding in natural beauty, thanks to the protea veld by which it is surrounded. Welvanpas, with its 309 year history, is legendary, it has been owned by the Retief family since its inception.

Voortrekker Leader, Piet Retief was born on the farm and you can even see his father's Grandfather Clock in the main house. Daniel Pieter Johannes Retief and his wife Retha, form part of the ten generations of owners that have lived and farmed here.

In terms of terrain, Welvanpas has a huge variety, with slopes facing in every direction. The farm is also relatively high above sea-level; these two factors combined have resulted in a treasure-chest of micro-climates.

Wines have been exported off Welvanpas since 1704 and are still being made using the old traditional, methods – The reds fermented in an open vat of cement using proven methods, then, having been crushed and milled, extra body and character are added in through their process of cold-maturation.

Current wines on offer are; Amity- a Chardonnay/ Steen blend, Pinotage-Rose, Cabernet, Krakeelhoek – a Merlot/ Shiraz blend and Shiraz – a spicy red.
