About Wine Tasting at De Grendal
De Grendel meaning 'the latch' in Dutch, has been in the Graaff family for three generations. Baronet, Sir David Graaff, retired politician and leading wine farmer, maintains a legacy of quality wine and promotes upliftment in the community by supporting labourers and their families. It forms part of a larger fynbos conservation area 'Renosterveld'.
Once used for breeding of Arab horses, the farm is now home to Holstein stud cattle, sheep, grain and vines. This estate is concerned with more than just winning accolades for its wines and ensures that the indigenous garden employs water wise principles to capture storm water during the wet season and uses an abundance of fynbos in the spirit of being plant wise. De Grendal is 'green' and boasts a carbon negative status meaning that the farm releases less carbon into the air than it absorbs through growth of vegetation on the farm.
Just 20 minutes from the city, De Grendal's open plan tasting room has impeccable views of Table Mountain, the ocean and Cape Town and offers the guidance of in-house experts 7 days a week. Add the recently launched De Grendal Sauvignon Blanc 2011 to your picnic basket and witness the 17th century Dutch canons fire every 2nd Saturday of the month.
