Location & Attractions
The charming town of Bredasdorp, reputed to be the first "dorp" established in South Africa, is nestled on the slopes of the Preekstoel hill amidst vast protea and wheat fields. The proteas, flourishing on the hill ridges, are a notable product of the Bredasdorp district.
Bredasdorp is perhaps most famous for its Shipwreck Museum, the only one of its kind in the country. The museum boasts an extensive collection of artifacts and furniture salvaged from shipwrecks along the coast, as well as items unique to the Overberg region.
For nature enthusiasts and bird watchers, the Heuningberg Nature Reserve, located at the top of Van Riebeeck Street, is a must-visit. It offers a variety of short hikes and walks through the scenic mountains.
