AfriCamps at White Elephant Safaris is located in the thriving Pongola Game Reserve, at the foot of the majestic Lebombo Mountains in KwaZulu-Natal. Pongola is the world's second-oldest private reserve and home to the shimmering waters of Lake Jozini. Accommodation in glamping tents dotting the unhindered Savannah-like bushveld on Lake Jozini's shore. Take in the unique surroundings and views over the Lebombo Mountains from your tent.

Self Catering Accommodation

AfriCamps at White Elephant Safaris has twelve boutique tents. Each AfriCamps tent consists of an outdoor wood-fired hot tub or splash pool, a spacious open plan lounge area with a comfortable couch, a dining area with solid wooden table and seating for five guests, a fully-equipped kitchen with a four burner hob, two bedrooms which comfortably sleeps five guests and a bathroom complete with hot shower, flushing toilet and washbasin.

Both bedrooms are furnished with a queen size bed and have their own private entrance which allows maximum privacy. One of the bedrooms also contains a single bunk bed. Our tents are equipped with air-conditioning and an indoor fireplace.

Enjoy a braai on our spacious wooden decks and take in the views from the comfortable deck loungers. Pull up the front covers and transform the tent into a large outdoor living area. Unwind and appreciate a festive family breakfast while taking in the serene natural beauty of the South African landscape. Our tents are equipped with Wi-Fi. A baby cot and high chair are also available.

The property offers a beautiful communal pool area where guests can cool off or laze the afternoon away overlooking the beautiful surroundings, often shared with nyala and warthog who enjoy this grassy spot. Visit the hide from where you can view wildlife and birds. Each tent also boasts an outdoor wood-fired hot tub, the ultimate form of relaxation, especially with an African sunset in front of you.

Breakfast

Breakfast is an optional extra and can be ordered at least one day in advance for an additional cost. Next to our breakfast baskets we also offer braai baskets. Both of them need to be ordered at least one day in advance.

Attractions

Please note that all activities are weather dependent. The boat cruise, game drive and Guided game / birding walk's timing may change due to weather and availability. The Elephant Research Project, Black Rhino Range Expansion Project and Fishing / Boat Hire activities must be booked with the camp host a week prior to arrival and confirmed on arrival. This is to ensure conditions for these activities are suitable and the activities are available at the time of your stay.

Additional Information

A gate entrance fee is payable at the gate. Essentials can be purchased at the shop. Make sure you have all the necessary supplies as the gate closes at 18:00 daily and the nearest shop is roughly 50km from the reserve.

Pongola Game Reserve is declared malaria-free by the Department of Health. However, if you are travelling via Mpumalanga and Swaziland or to the Northern coastal areas of KwaZulu Natal, before or after your visit to White Elephant, you may pass through higher risk areas. We advise you to consult your doctor for the latest high-risk areas and medication advice. Please be aware of ticks on the reserve. We suggest that you spray all your packed clothing, socks and shoes with a tick repellant (such as Bayticol) prior to your safari and then re-applying repellent once you are at White Elephant, before going out on game activities.

Pongola Game Reserve South Gate Times: Strictly 06h00 - 18h00 (exceptions only in case of emergency). Check-in from 14h00 to 18h00 on day of arrival. (so not 10h00 - 18h00 as these are the gate times) In case of arrival between 16h00 and 18h00, please report to reception first thing the next morning. The gate entrance fee is: R25.00 per vehicle, payable in cash at the gate (R50 entrance fee charged for late arrivals) Please note this is not included in your accommodation fee.
