Babanango Valley Lodge is set within the expansive Babanango Game Reserve, which spans 19,895 hectares of unspoiled wilderness. This haven is home to a rich array of wildlife, including Cheetahs, Leopards, Brown Hyenas, Jackals, Buffalo, Hippos, Rhinos, Giraffes, Zebras, and various antelope species such as Eland, Kudu, and Nyala. Rare and elusive creatures like Aardvarks and Aardwolves also inhabit the area. Lion and elephant populations are expected to be reintroduced, adding to the reserve’s allure.
Beyond its diverse mammal species, the reserve is a paradise for birdwatchers and butterfly enthusiasts. With 311 bird species and 32 butterfly species, highlights include the Pel’s Fishing Owl, Narina Trogon, Black Eagles, and nine breeding pairs of Blue Cranes. Other notable avian residents include Lappet-Faced and White-Backed Vultures, as well as Crowned Eagles.
