Bartholomeus Klip Farmhouse is a highly recommended Hermon hotel providing accommodation in 5 guest rooms for anyone visiting the Swartland region.
Bartholomeus Klip is an exclusive destination in the Cape Winelands, located on a working farm and game reserve in the Riebeek Valley. Discerning travellers will appreciate the peace and quiet in the exclusive five room farmhouse.
An easy drive of just over an hour from Cape Town, our romantic and supremely comfortable farmhouse is set beneath a spectacular mountain range, and surrounded by well kept farmland and a 10,000 acre nature reserve. We offer a range of activities on the farm as well as in the surrounding area.
There is a long history of hospitality at Bartholomeus Klip, which shows in the friendly smiles that greet our guests and the relaxed atmosphere of the homestead. You are welcome to make the house your own, perhaps in one of the reception rooms where an open fire crackles in the winter months, or on the broad verandah that winds around the house and catches the late afternoon sun.
The all inclusive accommodation, includes all meals (afternoon tea, snacks and sundowners, four course dinner, early morning coffee and pastries, mid morning brunch), twice daily activities and all unaccompanied activities (mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking).
Please see the individual room descriptions with photographs below, to assist you with your choice.
Bartholomeus Klip is famous for its food, which is generous, imaginative and mostly made from a variety of local produce. The conservatory is full of morning sunshine at breakfast time, and at night soft candlelight makes a romantic atmosphere for diners enjoying the gourmet evening meal. High tea, with its delicious array of sweet and savoury choices, is a speciality of the farmhouse.
There are many different things to do at Bartholomeus Klip, although plenty of our guests love to spend their time with us just switching off. However, if you want to do something more strenuous, we provide mountain bikes for cycling through the reserve or along the farm roads through the wheatfields, and there are plenty of wonderful routes to choose for walks. We also now offer archery, which is proving very popular.
Down at the dam guests can take to the water in canoes and kayaks, or go windsurfing, freshwater fishing or bird watching.
Even the most relaxed guest will want to join our rangers on the morning and evening nature drives through the reserve, where there is always something different to discover. And of course we are well situated for visits to the attractions of Riebeek Kasteel and Tulbagh, as well as the up and coming wineries of the Swartland.

We spent two nights in the Orchid Suite. The suite is nicely furnished and very comfortable. It has an outdoor area with table and chairs and an incredible view of the nearby mountains. The staff is incredibly friendly and efficient, catering to your every need. Excellent gourmet farm-style food is served for brunch, afternoon tea and a four course dinner. The setting is stunning with beautiful, well maintained grounds and twice daily game drives to the nearby nature reserve hosted by a very knowledgeable guide. The experience is well worth the cost. I'll be returning as soon as I can!
