Upington is ideal as a stopover for those travelling to the Augrabies Falls National Park, the Fish River Canyon and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Upington is named after Sir Thomas Upington, the first Attorney General of the Cape. Originally known as Kharahais, Upington owes its success to agriculture and irrigated lands along the Orange River.
There are a number of things to keep you busy during your stay in Upington; visit the Kalahari-Oranje Museum, book a Sakkie se Arkie river cruise, shop at the Old Mission Market, go beer tasting at Kalahari Craft Beer, visit the Orange River Cellars or play a round of golf at Upington Golf Club.
