Bitterpan Wilderness Camp is a property for self catering in Kgalagadi for anyone visiting the Kalahari region.
Bitterpan stands as an unenclosed sanctuary amidst the vast expanse of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Perched high above the crimson sand dunes of the Kalahari, it exists in a realm untouched by the passage of time - a bespoke, raised camp offering unparalleled views of a watering hole.
In this wilderness where the horizon stretches endlessly, where herds of gemsbok, springbok, eland, and blue wildebeest traverse with the changing seasons, where majestic camel thorn trees provide shelter for formidable black-mane lions and serve as lookout posts for leopards and various raptors, lies the essence of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
What to expect at the lodge/reserve
Bitterpan offers four chalets, each featuring a cozy bedroom furnished with twin beds, accompanied by a private bathroom equipped with a shower, toilet, and washbasin. Every chalet comes with its own barbecue facility.
While the vast panorama overlooks a sprawling pan dotted sparsely with trees, the camp itself, intimate and exclusive, is enveloped solely by the tranquil ambiance of the Kalahari.
Kindly refer to the detailed descriptions and accompanying photographs of individual rooms below to aid in your selection.
Guests can enjoy shared access to the communal kitchen facilities and barbecue area, a favored spot among 4x4 enthusiasts. The communal kitchen is fitted with modern amenities, including a stove, oven, fridge-freezer, cooking utensils and cutlery. Ample dining space is provided with tables and chairs.
Power within the camp is sourced from solar and gas, eschewing traditional electrical outlets. Additionally, the camp features an elevated viewing platform and a private circular drive route.
Access to the camp is restricted to high-clearance 4-wheel drive vehicles without trailers, linking the Nossob and Auob rivers. The route permits travel exclusively in a one-way direction from Nossob to Mata-Mata. A Tourism Assistant is stationed on-site at all times.
What is loadshedding? It refers to the temporary suspension of electricity provided by Eskom, South Africa's electricity provider, to reduce consumption and thereby the load on the national grid. To compensate, South African property owners are turning to solar power, inverters with backup batteries or in some cases generators to keep the power on, wherever feasible.
