In the little village of Clarens situated on the picturesque Free State Highlands Route, 17 kms from the Golden Gate National Park, 3 hours from Gauteng, Pretoria and Bloemfontein, and 4 hours from Durban, a special place awaits you.

Cottage Pie is a quiet tribute to solitude and peace, nestling beside a trickling stream amongst indigenous trees at the foot of a magnificent sandstone mountain. Our garden is a typical English Country garden.A variety of birds with occasional visits from buck, hare, dassie, baboon and porcupine, make living in the country a truly special experience.

ACCOMMODATION

Cottage Pie is a charming thatched home offering 4 en-suite rooms. One is an open-plan bedsitter with fully equipped kitchenette, digital TV and 3 single beds. Upstairs, under thatch has a queen sized bed and an old fashioned bath en-suite as well as tea/coffee making facilities and TV. The third is a quaint timber cabin on the stream with kitchenette and queen sized bed. All the rooms have private entrances.

This private en suite bedroom is linked to the main house and features a beautiful thatch roof with a private entrance via a wooden staircase outside the house. It is furnished with a King-size bed (can be made up as 2 singles) and the en-suite bathroom is fitted with a bath, NO SHOWER. The room features a heat and eat facility only (no kitchen/kitchenette), equipped with a bar fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave. It also features a TV with DSTV Premium. Towels are provided with quality linen including a down duvet and an electric blanket. A vanity, wardrobe, heater, fan, and 2 lounge chairs ensure that guests are comfortable while staying at Cottage Pie. Please take note that the Upstairs Under Thatch Unit does not have braai facilities or a private garden. Upstairs Under thatch Room is not pet friendly.

The unit opens onto a wooden deck where guests will find a 2-seater round table and it leads to a private area in the garden which has braai facilities and an outdoor dining area. The detached double storey house is ideal for a family of 4 or maximum 5. It is situated in the charming garden. The 2 bedrooms are upstairs and one has a king-size bed that can also be made up as 2 single beds and the other room has 2 single beds that can also be converted into a king-size bed. The rooms each have an en suite bathroom, one with a corner bath and the other with a shower. There is a day bed for a child in the sitting area upstairs. Guests can also relax there and enjoy the view of the garden and the mountains. Downstairs there is a kitchen, a living area and a guest toilet. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, gas stove, oven, microwave oven and a coffee machine. The living area has an anthracite stove that keeps the house warm in the cold Clarens winter, TV with Premium DStv and a dining table with seating for 8 guests. The house leads to a covered patio with an outdoor dining area.
