About Firefly Cottage

Firefly Cottage is located at Komati Gorge Lodge, midway between Carolina and Machadodorp. On the banks of the Komati River, at the base of a miniature Grand Canyon, this village of thatched dwellings provides affordable luxury in a most dramatic setting. Only 2½ hours from Gauteng, situated near the village of Dullstroom, Komati Gorge Lodge is a convenient stop over point from either Gauteng or KwaZulu Natal en-route to the Kruger National Park. However, to really appreciate the beauty of the surroundings and to experience Africa at its best, a 2 night stay at Komati Gorge Lodge is recommended.

This untouched expanse of 1200ha with its thorn bushveld and highveld grassland offers an unparalleled experience to nature lovers. The biodiversity creates a perfect environment for the prolific birdlife and a wide range of indigenous trees, shrubs and wild flowers. Game on the farm includes zebra, blue wildebeest, eland, kudu, blesbok, warthog, duiker and many more.

Self Catering Accommodation

Firefly Cottage can sleep up to four guests in two bedrooms. The main bedroom is furnished with a Queen-size bed and the second room has two single beds. The bathroom is fitted with a bath, shower, toilet and basin.

The kitchen is equipped with a two-plate stove, microwave and fridge. The lounge has a TV with DStv.

Outside there is a private patio and BBQ / braai facilities.

Well trained pets are welcome by arrangement.

On Site Facilities

Guests can cool down in our swimming pool or do some tubing down the river. There is an on-site restaurant. Gourmet meals and desserts compliments the exquisite service you will receive at our restaurant and the atmosphere is utterly alluring. We also have a fully stocked bar for our guests to enjoy refreshments from our wide selection of beverages.

Attractions

Situated in a sheltered canyon near Carolina, surrounded by the peaceful scenery, there's much to discover on our reserve. If you would like to go for a boat trip up the river, the canoes are available along the river towards Yellowwood house. We have quite a variety of game and other small animals on the reserve and surrounding areas. If you are interested in bird watching, there is a Bird List available at the reception reflecting which birds you can expect in this area and which have already been spotted on the reserve.

We have two marked hiking trails. The road going past the Lodge into the gorge offers beautiful scenery and the occasional spotting of baboons, monkeys and a variety of buck. There are several lovely places for you to go on a picnic. Guests often take the canoes up to the weir and picnic there.
