About Founders Railway Carriage

Founders Railway Carriage offers a new, exclusive use accommodation in Shamwari. The carriage is stationed atop a hill, overlooking a magnificent valley, within the Founders private reserve.

Accommodation

Founders Railway Carriage has three compartments accommodating a total of five guests. There is a main double sleeper as well as a two-berth and a single compartment. There are also period-inspired bathroom facilities onboard.

The carriage features an expansive outdoor deck, private swimming pool, dining area and private boma.

The carriage is equipped with air conditioning, a safe, hair dryer, coffer / tea making facilities, dressing gowns and slippers.

Guests staying on the carriage will have a dedicated staff to set the pace of their holiday – whether that's early morning nature walks, leisurely picnic brunches, lounging by the pool or late nights around the boma fire.

Rates Include

The Carriage rates include all meals and game drives, but excludes beverages.

Activities

Enjoy daily morning and evening game drives, on the adjacent Shamwari Game Reserve. Our guides will make nature come to life, whilst sharing the intricacies of the history, fauna and flora of the Eastern Cape with you. If you are a birder or a keen wildlife photographer or both, our experienced guides will make the most of your experience.

Our open game vehicles bring you closer to nature, adds to the excitement and makes it easy to spot the Big 5 as well as smaller animals and birdlife.

Founder's Lodge private 400-hectare reserve, stocked with plains game including giraffe and zebra, allows for nature walks in a safe environment.
