About Honey Bee Suite

Honey Bee Suite offers accommodation in Gansbaai in an indigenous forest found on the Baviaanspoort Hills. This eco-friendly, off-grid suite in the forest is exclusive in that guests enjoy the privilege of having this unique and beautiful forest venue all to themselves.

Our rustic and comfortable accommodation aims to provide guests with a sense of being at one with the forest environment. The site of the Honey Bee Suite is orientated around a magnificent and ancient white stinkwood tree – by our estimates it is well over 500 years of age.

Self Catering Accommodation

The Honey Bee Suite Holiday Cottage in Gansbaai offers private and secluded accommodation and sleeps two guests in a free-standing tented room furnished with a double bed. A mosquito net is supplied for the summer months and the bedroom has drop-down canvas blinds that form the walls of the unit, enabling you to feel truly part of the forest if you so wish.

The ablutions are fitted with a composting toilet, basin and shower. The bathroom is separate from the tented bedroom and is semi-enclosed, designed to make your stay at Platbos a true forest experience. Hot water is supplied via the old fashioned ‘donkey boiler system'.

The free standing kitchenette has drop down blinds and a day bed for relaxing on if the weather is chilly. The kitchenette is equipped with a cooler box, gas cooker, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery (no oven, microwave or fridge). guest can use the communal freezer at Platbos. There is an outdoor braai area with a grid. While the water at the camp is fine for boiling and using in food preparation, you might like to bring along your own drinking water.

The hot tub is set beneath a beautiful white stinkwood tree and uses untreated river water and takes ‘forest bathing' to the next level! Guests need to operate the wood-fired tub themselves but full instructions are supplied. The Hot Tub has a cover but it is not fenced.

Experience

A private pathway from the suite gives guests access to the main forest trail. Explore the magic of this ancient, relic forest as you wander the gentle, meandering pathways. Discover for yourself this unique, Lowland Afromontane Forest with specimen trees estimated to be well over 1000 years of age. The forest grows on a gentle slope and requires only moderate fitness. Depending on your pace, it takes between one to two and a half hours to complete the entire forest trail. Set out in a series of loops, one can walk the whole trail or just part of it.
