Ingwenya Lodge is a highly recommended property for self catering in St Lucia for anyone visiting the Elephant Coast region.
The Lodge's name “Ingwenya” derives from the Zulu word for crocodile. It was quite logical to choose a name for our lodge indigenous to Zululand, in this first world heritage site of South Africa.
Ingwenya Lodge is situated on the "outskirts" of the residential area of St Lucia. The property borders the nature reserve with a view of both the sea and the estuary, a very unique privilege in St Lucia.
The self catering units are all air-conditioned. The self-catering units are named after the five rivers of the St Lucia Estuary.
Facilities include a swimming pool, air-conditioning in all rooms, Wi-Fi available in all units, huge jungle gym, additional freezing facilities, and a hiking trail that starts from the premises. The units are serviced daily. Please see detailed descriptions and photographs below.
The surroundings are very peaceful and hippos graze often at the entrance of the Lodge during the night. Small game frequently wanders on the premises and a rumour of a leopard in the area has been going around.

Nice Place Great Location. We were lucky enough to get the Mfolozi suite which was large, airy, comfortable and beautiful. The grounds were beautiful - civilized - yet you still knew you were in a jungle. There is a great tree house for kids. We loved the monkeys! Hippos occasionally come up the bank to their pool during the night but we weren't lucky enough to see one. Or maybe we were lucky! Madeleine the proprietor couldn't have been nicer. She gave us terrific advice on what to see and do in St. Lucia and was always available through her cell phone, if not in person. The staff kept the place very clean. St. Lucia is in the jungle so a slight moldy smell is pervasive in all the buildings of the town and towels don't air-dry well at all. That was the only drawback but it couldn't be helped.
