Ironstone Cottage offers Karoo Heartland self catering on the Broederstroom Farm in Graaff Reinet. It is ideal for a tranquil farm stay, with easy access to all of the town's amenities. The cottage is 12.5km from town, 8km of which are on a dirt road.
Self Catering Accommodation
Ironstone Cottage is a self catering holiday cottage with two double rooms, each with their own bathroom.
The main cottage has a fully equipped kitchen which includes a dishwasher. The cottage has Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a fireplace in the living area. There is limited cell phone reception at the cottage.
There is an outdoor firepit and a plunge pool. Please note that is it necessary to have a 4x4 for access to the cottage.
A 4x4 /high clearance definitely advisable as private access is via a dirt road dipping through a dry river bed.

The Area
The cottage is a short distance from the 200 year old Cape Dutch farmhouse and wagon house (currently being restored) and faces up a valley with a firepit overlooking the kloof. The cottage is a former farm labourer's cottage and has been fully renovated - the gardens continue to be a work in progress. There is access to hiking and mountain biking trails directly from the cottage. Please note that it is a Karoo farm and can experience extremes of weather conditions. There is a resident bat colony which is housed in an external bat house - they are an endangered species and keep the mosquito and insect population to a minimum, however please do not be surprised to see one flying inside if one is not careful to keep doors and windows closed at night.
