Accommodation

Built originally as a family home, Jembisa has a wonderful atmosphere of relaxation and comfort. The lodge is built from local stone and thatch with large, spacious rooms decorated with natural materials in an Afro-colonial style.

There are seven luxury en-suite bedrooms, three with private balconies. Having been a family home, Jembisa benefits from some extras not usually found at safari lodges, for example a library, reading room, games room and tennis court. All bathrooms have both a shower and a bath.

FACILITIES

Whether guests wish to relax in style or be more active, there are a host of options available at Jembisa. They can swim or relax by the natural saltwater pool, play a game of tennis on the floodlit court or for extra relaxation opt for a massage either in the privacy of their bedroom or on the secluded deck overlooking the river.

CUISINE

Our chef will prepare delicious meals for you. Local, fresh ingredients are used when in season including those from our own large, organic kitchen garden. Please let us know of any special dietary needs or preferences in advance. Meals are varied affairs and may include picnics in the bush, dinner under the stars, lunch on the terrace, and al fresco breakfasts and brunches. A wide range of beverages are available and wines are quality South African estate wines.

Kids Programme

At Jembisa family safaris are our speciality and we offer a very wide range of unique activities designed to give a full and rounded depth to the safari. As we are small we are flexible with our safari programme to cater to the ages and interests of each family group.

All children love Jembisa, enjoy a thrilling safari adventure, are educated in some of the wonders of the natural world and leave as mini-game trackers. For families to share this experience is a never-to–be forgotten holiday.

There are nanny services for kids under 2, 3-5 years can enjoy game drives with parents, little 5 bug and bird walk and the games room, 6-10 get activity packs, quizzes, bug hunts and more, 11-15 enjoy walking safaris, archery, fishing, camp outs, game drives and more.

ACTIVITIES

Game drives are in 4x4 open landrovers with highly trained and experienced rangers. Night drives provide the opportunity of seeing the nocturnal animals such as leopard, brown hyena, aardvark, civets and porcupines. Bush walks are always fascinating and guests may experience the thrill of walking with rhino.

There is an option of camping out for a night under canvas, getting closer to nature and waking with the African dawn. Visit Bushman Paintings and archaeological sites, the reserve has been home to many people over time and there are Stone Age, early and late Iron Age sites and bushman paintings.

There are also lots of interesting things to do in the surrounding area; horse riding for the novice to the experienced rider, elephant-back safaris, a visit to the Rhino and Waterberg cultural museum where guests can hand-feed an orphan rhino, excursions to Big 5 Reserves, visit to local African art and curio shops and scenic helicopter flights. Transfers can be arranged by air or road.
