About Koedoeskop Private Mountain Reserve

Koedoeskop Private Mountain Reserve is the Karoo's best kept secret. Situated north of the Addo Elephant Park in Somerset East, this is an exceptionally preserved nature reserve owned and managed by nature enthusiasts.

We offer a true experience of the African bush and its wildlife and specialize on activities such as walking and hiking, mountain biking, game and bird viewing, botany trails or tracking.

  • Guided game drives included
  • Malaria-free area

Accommodation

This small family run lodge guarantees a personal touch and warm hospitality. Accommodation is offered in the tastefully renovated, historic Karoo-style farmhouse which has six spacious double bedrooms, all of which are en-suite (four with queen size beds and two with two three-quarter beds each).

There is a swimming pool for the warm summer days and amenities such as air-conditioning, heaters and a lounge with a fireplace add to our rustic-chic atmosphere.

Breakfast & Dining

Dinners and evening drinks are served on our large stoep or beside the fire around the boma, beneath the unspoilt starry Eastern Cape sky. Exchanging stories about the day's impressions and sightings, will certainly be some of the highlights of your stay. We pride ourselves on serving real home cooking made from fresh local ingredients, many from our own garden, with a French touch.

All inclusive stays, including lunches and dinners are the standard but bed and breakfast or self-catering options are also possible.

Activities

The game rangers will take you out for daily game drives or will arrange for guided walks, hikes or mountain biking round trips. It is the perfect place for family or friends to reunite and spend quality time together in an unspoiled natural environment. We specifically welcome children, even very young, to whom we can offer dedicated outdoor activities such as treasure hunts, mini-rangers programs and ‘survival' courses.

The Reserve

Our nature reserve sustains an array of animal species, some of which are endemic to the Eastern Cape such as the Black Wildebeest and the Cape Mountain Zebra. We have a range of large browsers and grazers as well as naturally occurring predators.

i spent one night with them- unfortunately when booking the lodge i was def. NOT aware of the big distance from sommerset east and the very bad road to reach the lodge- on the MAIN road before sumerset there is NO sign for your lodge which i find very poor! perhaps it was my mistake that, before booking, i did not check better about the distance etc- otherwise i would have NOT made the booking-sorry about this. the lodge and the service plus food is very good-I was the only guest bu was treated very well. the animals are few and the roads in the reserve also very bad. sorry i can not recommend game viewing at their reserve- i have been at much better places
