Marula @ Bushveld Bivouac offers stunning, fully serviced, off-the-grid, self-catering glamping accommodation in Hoedspruit amongst the abundant birdlife and majestic flora, on an easily accessible 300-hectare farm with a wide range of plains game. Guests will enjoy magnificent views, unspoilt bush and beautiful amenities when booking the accommodation at Bushveld Bivouac in Mica, 30km from Hoedspruit.
This suite is named for the beautiful Marula sitting proudly in the deck between the plunge pool and the fire pit. But apart from its marula tree and luxuriant garden with a separate wood fire hot tub, this suite is surrounded by incredible rock features with soft green overtones – emulated in the tent's soft furnishings – and incredible sunsets. Luxuriate in peaceful hours by the circular pool enjoying the expanse of bush in front of you as you drink it all in.
Archaeological evidence shows that marulas have been a source of nutrition for as long as 12,000 years. They are dioecious, which means they have a specific gender – only the female trees bear the juicy, aromatic fruit. This is rich in minerals and vitamin C and can also be cooked to produce jam, juices and alcoholic beverages. Inside the flesh are one or two very small, tasty nuts which are rich in protein. Various species of wildlife eat the fruit and leaves of the tree, especially Bushveld Bivouac's two resident eland, Brutus and Cleopatra, who you may find nibbling in your garden on any given night! Traditional medicinal uses of marula also include the use of the leaves for relief of heartburn. The bark contains antihistamines and is also used for the treatment of dysentery, diarrhoea and as a malaria prophylactic. The wood is soft and used for carving and the inner bark can be used to make rope.
Marula is furnished with a King-size bed and has a ceiling fan. The en-suite bathroom is fitted with a shower, toilet and basin and has bathroom amenities, linen and towels provided.
Marula has a private kitchen equipped with a two plate stove, fridge, crockery, cutlery and utensils. There is a private plunge pool and firepit. Free Wi-Fi is provided.
There is a separate plunge pool and a wood fire hot tub to relax and unwind in.
Children under 14 years old will be accommodated on camp beds in their parents tents. A maximum of two children (under 14 years of age) per tent can be accommodated.
Complimentary fresh coffee, teas, sugar, creamer and rusks are provided and pastries and freshly squeezed juices can be delivered to the site by arrangement for an additional fee. Even though the sites are self-catering, as an extra at an additional cost, food shopping can be done on clients' behalf and delicious pre-prepared meals can be ordered, as well as a mouth-watering picnic basket for a day excursion.
The reserve is 20 minutes from Hoedspruit, 40 minutes from Phalaborwa Gate and just over an hour from Orpen Gate, both of which are entrances into the Kruger National Park; and within easy access of a wide range of fascinating tourist activities including the Blyde River Canyon and God's Window, Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre, Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, Jessica the Hippo, Hoedspruit Reptile Centre, Bourke's Potholes, Three Sisters, craft breweries and gin tasting, HERD Elephant Orphanage, various craft shops and restaurants.
What is loadshedding? It refers to the temporary suspension of electricity provided by Eskom, South Africa's electricity provider, to reduce consumption and thereby the load on the national grid. To compensate, South African property owners are turning to solar power, inverters with backup batteries or in some cases generators to keep the power on, wherever feasible.
