About Nkawu Cottage

Nkawu Cottage lies in Mtunzini, a little town on the North coast of KwaZulu Natal. Mtunzini is blessed with its own nature reserve, the Umlalazi Nature Reserve, a magnificent lagoon, breathtaking dunes and an endless beach ... all this just 2.3 km away from the cottage. Also nearby are shops around the corner, a pizzeria and a few restaurants, making it very convenient for holidays.

Self Catering Accommodation

Nkawu Cottage (Vervet monkey in Zulu), is part of the 4000 sqm property. This totally independent cottage has two separate bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with two single beds and both have air conditioners. There is a bathroom with a basin, shower facility and separate toilet. There is a third attached en-suite bedroom which sleeps an additional guest.

There is an open plan dining and living room and entrance hall, TV and video machine. The fully equipped kitchen has been well thought out and offers every practical detail required for self catering. There is also a barbecue area outside, with garden furniture and there is secure parking on site for our guests.

Towels and sheets are provided, but please bring your own beach towels. The cottage has lots of cupboard space.

"Having left Belgium 20 years ago, my husband and I have finally found the peace and tranquility we were looking for. After moving from place to place, from country to country, we landed in Mtunzini, which means “place in the shade” in Zulu".

Attractions and Experiences

Situated 135km from Durban, our cottage is an hour away from the renowned big five Hlululuwe / Umfolozi Park, and a further half an hour drive is the St Lucia Wetland Park, on the magnificent Maputaland Coast - a World Heritage Site, where scuba diving is a must.

On a cloudy day, an hours drive away is the Gateway Shopping Centre where kids can enjoy the skateboard park and wave center, climb the wall or watch a movie.
