About 5km outside of town lies the Karoo National Park which stretches into the Nuweveld Mountain range. Here two endangered species, the Riverine Rabbit and the Black Rhinoceros have been successfully resettled. The Park is home to five Tortoise species, the most in any conservation area in the world. The Park also has challenging 4x4 routes into the mountains, walking and fossil trials.
Dr Chris Barnard (who performed the first heart transplant) was born here. Our Museum is very popular due to this. You can go for a visit and see lots of interesting things there, Including the Sending Kerk and Stadtshuis. The Stadtshuis was first to be build in the Karoo.
On a plot just outside of town, are paintball games for the more adventurous at heart and Beaufort-West also offers a grass Golf Course for those of you bringing your golf clubs along.
Then there is Beaufort West Hydrophonics which produces high quality fresh herbs and other for local and international markets. Go and have a look at how this is done. Beaufort West might seem like the typical quiet Karoo Town, but come and have a look what surprises it has in store for you!

Ahhhh! What a lovely spot! The warmth of the hospitality, the cool crisp linen on the bed, the ducks happily waddling around between the roses, ice-cold beer served with a smile in the back garden, a delicious breakfast, gorgeous furniture pieces, interesting books to read in the lounge. This would make a BRILLIANT honeymoon place - VERY romantic. They even called the restaurant down the street and asked them to open an hour earlier for us because our little girl needed to eat. Would recommend it only to to my most special people - so it can be our secret! Don't change a thing!
