About Rosewood Corner

Rosewood Corner B&B is situated in the centre of the village of Clarens, a very special little village surrounded by sandstone mountains. We are situated in the centre of the village on tar, within easy walking distance of restaurants, art galleries, shops etc.

Accommodation

Rosewood consists of four en suite bedrooms with their own entrances leading into a pretty garden, where there are bomas with barbeque facilities for relaxing and enjoying the birdlife during the day and the magnificent starlit skies at night. Our rooms are individually decorated with original art, antiques, Persian and hand-woven carpets and percale bed linen. Each room is equipped with a television set, tea tray, heaters and electric blankets in winter.

Activities and attractions

River-rafting, quad biking, fly-fishing, horse-riding, game drives, Bushmen's paintings, golf, tennis and bowls and in winter skiing in nearby Lesotho are just a few of the popular sporting facilities in and around Clarens.

There are a number of well -equipped beauty spas and wellness centres in Clarens and surrounding areas. Guests can spoil themselves with different treatments and all day and half-day specials.

Walk around the charming village or follow the path along the stream. Guests can also take a slow walk to the dam and other hikes in the nearby mountains. Only 17 km's from Golden Gate Nature Reserve, climb to the vultures' restaurant, (where the vultures feed on carcases), lovely views of the surrounding mountains, Witsieshoek, famous for the Sentinel hiking trail with its chain ladder and breath-taking views of the Drakensberg , is about an hour and a half from Clarens. Take a beautiful scenic drive to Fouriesburg which is about half an hour from Clarens, or to Sterkfontein Dam about 80 km's from Clarens.

There is a casino and cinemas in nearby Bethlehem.

Clarens

Clarens is known for its art galleries, displaying works by famous South African artists, also pottery and glassware. There are many well-known artists living in and around Clarens who have galleries displaying their works.

There is a choice of excellent restaurants, pubs and quaint shops, including unique gift shops, a bakery, delicatessen and a bookshop.

Thanks to Jenny for letting us park in the garage and letting us in earlier so we could go and shop! Stay was great, thanks, and the guest house is conveniently close to the CBD so we could walk. Just by the way, we popped into the Bibliophile shop and found a gem of a book on SA's Dutch Reformed Churches, and the beautiful sandstone NGK opposite the guesthouse is featured in the book. It's one of Gerhard Moerdyk's designs and a smaller version of the one he designed in the neighbouring Bethlehem. We couldn't miss this church as we have an interest in church architecture as my great grandfather of the 1800's, Carl Otto Hager, also designed and built some famous churches in the old Cape, and his son, Johann, built two in Middelburg Tvl and Lydenburg from his designs. Will stay there again. Regards
