Savannah Game & River Retreat is a secluded African bush retreat where tranquility and relaxation awaits you. This is where the sunsets explode in brilliant colours of orange and red against the mountains of the Vredefort Dome, which is a World Heritage Site.
Accommodation
At this small and intimate safari lodge you can enjoy our Rustic Tented Chalets, The Main Lodge or our rondavel accommodation. The lodge is situated within walking distance to the river.

Breakfast & Dining
Buffet breakfasts are served on the deck overlooking the watering hole. We have a Restaurant and Bush Bar with full DSTV on the premises.
Location
We are situated in the Free State just outside Parys, nestled in the Vredefort Dome bordering 8km of Vaal River frontage. Therefore we own some of the most beautiful and breathtaking sites and sunsets!
We have the pleasure of sharing 2500 acres with 25 different mammal species including buffalo, giraffe, sable, zebra, kudu and many more. The list is endless; come and join us for a scenic game drive.
The 8km of Vaal frontage that was mentioned is ideal for paddling, bird watching over 300 species and fishing. We also have hiking and biking trails along the river for relaxing strolls or extreme sports!

Me and my partner decided on a little break away from the city and we came across Savannah Game And River retreat on SA Venues. It really looked appealing and exactly what we were looking for. We made a booking for the weekend of 13th February with check out only for Monday, to give us some more time to relax. During our stay we really enjoyed the nature. The Staff were VERY friendly in particular Suzan and Julia. They were very helpful and always smiling. The Game drive was lovely and really enjoyed seeing the rest of the farm. However there were a few things that we feel they can improve on and would like to make some suggestions : - The Luxury Tented chalets are said to be self catering, but there is no fridge, or mini Kitchenette available - Dustbins and big rubbish bins are not readily available : something good to maybe add - hiking trail : unfortunately was overgrown and completely flooded. It seemed like the staff wasn't aware of that. Fishing area seemed deserted and unkempt. Maybe see to cut a new path around the old one. - Over all facilities seemed poorly maintained and in areas very dilapidated. - No house keeping service - on the Sunday , we were the only guests still remaining and it seemed like this was unfamiliar to them as they had only One staff member that stayed behind to assist us on the Sunday. Suzan as previously said was amazing , but felt sorry for her to have to deal with everything on her own, including no arrangement for her for transport the next morning when we checked out. This place shows a lot of potential to be the best break away spot , but clearly needs some TLC and improvement. The valentine's braai in the Bouma was exceptional and very well organised. Also the food was lovely. Though it was not the best, we did enjoy the breakaway but would prefer visiting another place next time around.
