Game drives take place in the tranquil moods of sunrise and sunset. Survey the areas, witness the birds of prey or spot one of the Big 5 from the comfort and safety of our open game viewing vehicles. Our rangers and guides are passionate about wildlife and knowledgeable in their respective fields of expertise. Expect to take away new insights, an appreciation for Africa, and an unforgettable experience.
Our game viewing drives are available for morning and afternoon trips, as this is when the animals are most active. Our vehicles are open and comfortable, and give you a panoramic view of the area. If you have a particular area of interest, you're welcome to inform your guide who will include it along the journey, if possible.
The game drives themselves last for approximately three to four hours and take you through the reserve. Included on the game drive is a coffee stop for the morning drive and a sundowner stop in the afternoon. Unfortunately, no children under the age of 4 are permitted on the game drives; however, we can arrange a childminder at an additional cost.

Having attended a meeting in Cape Town it seemed a great idea to stay in a game reserve and try and see the wildlife. (Always a bit dependent on the animals!) I stayed at Shamwari and the staff were all helpful, generous and intent on making your stay a good one. The food and accommodation were fabulous and the drink was included and nobody took overly much advantage of this. On to the main part - The rangers were absolutely determined that we should see as many animals as possible. This started with impala and a rhinocerous wandering between our 'tents'. In the jeeps we saw so much in 3 days that it was just unbeleivable. Of course zebra, rhino, elephants and lions but also cheetah, cape buffalo, various and many antelope/gazelles of different types but also many birds. So many of the animals had young as well, which was delightful. The highlight had to be sitting about 2 yards away from a young male leopard - something many South Africans have not managed. The weather was mixed but we were never cold. The experience of a lifetime if you love wild life. Highly recommended and thank you all.

I was so impressed with everything - the suite I had which gave me magnificent views, to the comfort of the bed, the balconies to sit on, the unobtrusivenss of the staff irrespective of whether they were cleaners, waiters, managers. The game viewing was wonderful - the ranger was very knowledgeable and had the sharpest eyes ever. He listened to people and every question was answered in full. I have been to planty of game reserves but his knowledge was outsanding and I learnt new things about some of the wildlife. The food was out of this world - I am sure I put on 10kg in the time I stayed there. If you are not a fan of ice cream just wait until you try theirs - it is out of this world! The stay was so enjoyable so I booked an extra night and so stayed longer than originally intended. I have every intention of returning and sincerely hope I can once again stay at Long Lee Lodge. If you do not stay at Shamwari you will regret it for the rest of your life
