This malaria free reserve is home to the Big 5 as well as a diverse group of plant and animal life, including 350 species of bird. It is a Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations and encompasses some important historic and prehistoric sites. Shibula has access to the entire 36,000ha reserve that borders with Marakele National Park.
Safari drives are totally silent and powered by solar power. Our Landrovers will take you around some of the most vibrant areas of this reserve. No more dirty emissions, noise and disturbance by vehicles – we are totally blended with nature. Two game drives are conducted daily, one in the early morning and one in the late afternoon. Game walks can be made available upon prior arrangement.
What is loadshedding? It refers to the temporary suspension of electricity provided by Eskom, South Africa's electricity provider, to reduce consumption and thereby the load on the national grid. To compensate, South African property owners are turning to solar power, inverters with backup batteries or in some cases generators to keep the power on, wherever feasible.
