Splashy Fen Cottage offers self-catering accommodation in Drakensberg on a farm just 18km from Underberg, next to the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park. If you're looking for peace and solitude with spectacular views of the Drakensburg Mountains, lovely spots for swimming and tubing and fantastic hiking and birding, this is the place.

The Umzimude River which runs through the farm is heavenly for swimming in and picnicking next to. In the evenings, listen out for the howl of the jackals and the whistle of the reedbuck.

Self Catering Accommodation

Splashy Fen Cottage sleeps six people in three bedrooms, and an additional four people in a mezzanine loft room, above the lounge, accessed via a ladder. The first bedroom is furnished with a King-size bed, the second bedroom has two single beds and the third bedroom is furnished with a double bed. The mezzanine loft has three single beds and a pull-out floor mattress.

The cottage has two bathrooms, one fitted with a bath and overhead shower, toilet and basin and the other is fitted with a bath, shower, toilet and basin. Towels are provided.

The cottage has a kitchen equipped with a hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, bar fridge and washing machine. There is a dining area and a cosy lounge with a fireplace. The cottage opens onto a patio with outdoor furniture and beyond that a beautiful, spacious garden.

Access to Splashy Fen Cottage is via a main road and farm track totalling approximately 20 km from Underberg. Neither roads are tarred and can be in poor condition, especially after heavy rain. The cottage is accessible in a normal car, slowly and with care, but a high clearance vehicle is strongly recommended at all times of the year.

Pets

Pet friendly for a maximum of two dogs at an additional cost of R100 per pet (by arrangement). A maximum of 2 dogs are allowed at a time. Please do not let pets climb on the beds or furniture. All pets must be controlled and not allowed to wander or chase livestock and wild animals.

Activities and Attractions

Splashy Fen is next to the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park where fantastic hiking trails can be accessed. The nearby Sani Pass is well worth a trip and there are a number of operators in Underberg and Himeville who will organise this for you should you not have a 4x4, which is required to drive up the Pass.

There are several restaurants in the area as well as cycling, horse riding trails and river adventure guides. Other attractions are fly fishing in the crystal clear rivers, booking a ride with Khotso Horse Trails, seeing the Berg with Drakensberg Canopy Tours and having a pub lunch at the Himeville Arms.
