About Thaba Lapeng Mountain Escape
Thaba Lapeng Mountain Escape is situated in the Free State in the charming town of Clarens. Accommodation is available in three separate units and two rooms in the main house which sleep a total of sixteen guests. The name is derived from the local Sotho language which means “residence against the mountain” and has beautiful views of the Maloti Mountains in Lesotho.

Thaba Lapeng Mountain Escape consists of three self catering, open-plan chalets which are adjacent to the main house, as well as two rooms as part of the main house.
Bokmakierie Chalet:
This chalet is furnished with a Queen-size bed and a 2-in-1 single bed (which contains a pull-out bed underneath the ‘normal' bed). It has two sliding doors with 2 views. There is a kitchen area and outside deck with outdoor furniture and a braai.
Bergwater Chalet:
This chalet is furnished with a Queen-size bed, a 2-in-1 single bed (which contains a pull-out bed underneath the ‘normal' bed), as well as a 2-seater couch. It has one sliding door with outside deck and braai.
Morelyster Chalet:
This chalet is furnished with a Queen-size bed and two single beds. If so required, the 2 single beds can be converted into a king size bed. It has one sliding door leading out to a deck area and braai.
Suikerbekkie Room:
This room is furnished with a Queen-size bed as well as a coffee station consisting of a kettle, coffee, tea, milk, sugar, and rusks. No braai facilities.
Vuurvinkie Room:
This room is furnished with a Queen-size bed as well as a coffee station consisting of a kettle, coffee, tea, milk, sugar, and rusks. No braai facilities.

The cottages were extremely well equipped and comfortable. The staff and owners were friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The views were breathtaking, and I managed to get beautiful photos of the sunset, an afternoon storm and a variety of birdlife that frequent the gardens. It is 12km's outside of Clarens and I appreciated the tranquility.
