About The Ark Holiday Home

The Ark is an intriguing house, aptly named, reminds one of Noah's Ark. It nestles amongst giant trees in a wooded garden a few steps away from the meandering river in Stanford. This is an ideal spot to get away from stressed city living, offering a unique base from which to explore this magical village and the Cape Overberg region.

Self Catering Accommodation

The Ark Holiday House in Stanford has been tastefully furnished with French country flair, with an interesting mix of robust antiques and contemporary furniture.

A wooden staircase leads up to two of the airy bedrooms, one is furnished with a King-size bed and the other is furnished with a Queen-sized bed. Both bedrooms are air conditioned. Large windows overlook different aspects of the garden. The comfortable beds have 100% cotton percale linen and Hungarian goose down duvets.

One additional bedroom is accessed from the back veranda and is furnished with a double bed. There is a nook extension of the living area with two single beds, perfect for an afternoon nap or for the children to sleep.

The upstairs wood panelled bathroom is fitted with a basin, toilet and bath. The downstairs bathroom is fitted with a shower, basin and separate toilet. Linen and towels provided, but bring your own swimming towels.

The house has a downstairs lounge/dining area with large kitchen, open fireplace, a formal dining area and a cosy seating area. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large fridge/freezer, 5 plate gas stove with electric oven and an adequate preparation area and cupboard space. A small laundry area houses a washing machine, dishwasher and ice maker.

The covered veranda looks out onto the spacious garden and play area for children. The built-in seating and generous table encourage lazy al fresco dining and the comfortable day bed is an ideal place to read a good book.

The outdoor pit braai area is set away from the house with the circle of chairs and rustic workbench inviting long evenings around the fire.

Adequate secure off-street parking is available behind a lockable farm gate.

The Area

Art galleries and antique shops invite the casual browser, and mouth-watering fare in cafes, pubs, restaurants and at the local cheese farm entice the senses. The mountain, fynbos, the river and the coastline attract a fascinating diversity of birdlife.

Hikers and mountain bikers can choose coastal or mountain routes, or merely amble along the village Wandelpad. Paddlers can escape to the solitude and silence of the river. Slow down your pace and let Stanford embrace you!
