About The Cavern Drakensberg Resort and Spa
The Cavern is situated on a private nature reserve in the Northern Drakensberg Mountains and borders on the Amphitheatre World Heritage Site. The resort is situated in a secluded valley beneath the towering slopes of Hlolela and Sugarloaf Peaks; you will find a natural paradise of indigenous forests, fields, hills and mountains making this the ideal setting for an enjoyable mountain holiday.
The hotel itself nestles happily at the head of the valley, hidden from the main berg but offering grand views of faraway sandstone outcrops and spectacular sunrises.
The friendly reception staff welcome you and from then it just gets better and better. The food is so good you are tempted to try everything on the menu. Children are welcome, with special entertainment offered daily, while well-trained nannies are on hand in the kid's dining room and for baby-sitting duties.
Accommodation
The accommodation is set in lush garden landscapes with a vibrant mix of indigenous plants, filled with the sounds of birdlife. The hotel offers superior twin rooms, two superior doubles and one superior inter-leading room. In addition to this there are seven superior suites and three superior family suites. If you would prefer a standard room we also have nine twin rooms, 12 double rooms, eight family rooms and 10 inter-leading rooms. See the room descriptions below.
Dining
We offer healthy meals for all ages with no limits on the number of courses. We serve buffet lunches, weather permitting, as an alternative. Our many decks, indigenous gardens, prolific bird life and warm sunny weather provide opportunities for fine outside dining. Boma breakfasts and snack evenings are organised weekly. We cater for most dietary requirements but please let us know in advance.
Activities
With all that delicious food, you really need exercise and there is a huge choice of things to do; from gentle strolls to really stiff hikes (your guide will serve drinks and crunchies along the way); tennis, bowls and horse riding; croquet and volleyball, swimming and great mountain bike trails. With a 9-hole golf course and Adventure Centre down the road, this is the perfect holiday destination in the Northern Drakensberg.
