Tierkloof The Fort enjoys vast views over the Ceres, Karoo to the Roggeveld mountains. Distance from artificial lights means that our night skies are crystal clear and offer the perfect conditions for star-gazing. The cottage offers Self catering accommodation in Ceres on a private 1200 hectare farm.

Self Catering Accommodation

With a front door leading onto the Tankwa plains and its western side straddling a Swartruggens mountain slope, The Fort literally encompasses the best of both beautiful worlds

This charmingly appointed hideaway for larger groups of up to 10 guests incorporates a separate large pool and entertainment deck with a built-in barbecue and seating area. Aptly named because of its fortress-like outward appearance, the Fort is made from local rocks hewn into shape to form massive walls around an interior which will keep guests in cool luxury even on the hottest of days in summer and cosy and warm in winter.

A large airy open plan dining, lounge and fully equipped kitchen area opens out via a large arched glass-paned door onto an endless view of the Tankwa plains. A raised swimming pool and deck is situated a short distance away. The partially covered pool deck incorporates a barbecue and a large table and chairs.

An open barbecue pit with surrounding seating is situated on the NE side of the Fort. Parking for up to five vehicles is available next to adjacent shady pepper trees. Out front, a dedicated sandy boules court awaits those wanting to enjoy this quirky and fun outdoor game. Boules are provided.

Note that the maximum capacity at The Fort is 10. No additional people will be allowed as it puts a strain on our infrastructure.

Tierkloof The Fort is the ideal venue for larger groups of up to ten guests, and comprises of four bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are three bedrooms furnished with a Queen-size bed each and the fourth bedroom has four single beds. The first bathroom is fitted with a bath and shower while the second bathroom has a shower only.

The kitchen is well-equipped with a fridge, gas stove and oven. The spacious living area offers a dining table, fireplace and a comfortable lounge suite.

The living area leads out onto a patio with outdoor dining table, comfortable chairs and a built in braai. The unit also has an elevated private pool and a wood fired hot pool with stunning views of the farm. There is an upstairs chill room with comfortable furniture and views of the farm.

Free Wi-Fi and a small Bluetooth speaker are available for guests to use. There is also a ‘boulodrome' where guests can test their skills at a game of boules.

Tap water is drinkable.
High clearance vehicles are a definite advantage.
We rely on solar power thus ironing of bed linen is not possible. We do promise however, that it will be Karoo fresh! Should you wish your bed linen to be ironed, please let us know in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Additional Information

As we are self catering and off the beaten track, please be sure that you bring all you need for your stay. We do provide firewood and additional wood can be purchased if required. Tap water is drinkable.

An ideal getaway for bird-watching, hiking, mountain biking, stargazing and total peace and quiet. Having said that stoep-sitting seems to be one of the most popular activities! Expect to leave de-stressed, relaxed and not wanting to go home!

Pet Policy

By prior arrangement with management, guests may be accompanied by pets that conform to the following requirements:

They must be socialised and controllable. We have our own, very gentle and friendly dogs who may come and pay a visit and/or you may encounter them or other guests' pets while out on an excursion. They must not be in any way inclined to chase other animals or birds.

They are strictly not allowed to swim in the pools or climb onto or lie on couches and beds. We have encountered serious issues removing animal hair from pool filters, furniture and bedding and our light-coloured fabric covered couches tend to mark.

Any damages resulting from pets will be for the client's account. Please note that the Cottages are not fenced.
