The Library is a property for self catering in Franschhoek for up to 6 guests visiting the Cape Winelands region.
Guarded by two towering jacarandas and an ancient oak, The Library is a distinguished double-storey self-catering home. Set in a serene and peaceful corner of the village, this location offers an ideal retreat for those looking to explore the valley and its surroundings. The village's lively main road is just a short stroll away.
The Library accommodates up to six adult guests in three en-suite bedrooms, providing spacious and elegant lodging. Inspired by history's great explorers, the interior is a blend of luxury, intrigue, and charm.
The three bedrooms are thoughtfully appointed: the first with a king-size bed, while the second and third each have two single beds that can be combined into a king-size bed. The two expansive en-suite bedrooms on the ground floor feature both bath and shower facilities with double basins. These rooms open onto a covered patio that offers views of the garden and large pool through large, stacking doors.
The upstairs living space is a unique, barn-like expanse, carefully designed to maximize light and views. This area opens to a spacious floating deck that overlooks the mountains and vineyards on the southwestern side of the Franschhoek valley. Light pours in from windows on all four walls and a central skylight positioned above the nautically inspired staircase.
The central staircase divides the upstairs living area, creating a distinct separation between the dining area and kitchen from a cozy gathering space with plush sofas and chairs arranged around an open wood-burning fireplace. A long double desk offers a panoramic view of the Franschhoek Pass through its windows.
The modern kitchen is equipped with premium Le Creuset cookware, a gas hob, oven, and dishwasher. The dining table is an original piece, featuring a built-in light beneath an onyx stone inset, adding a unique touch. Outside on the deck, you'll find a second dining table, a built-in braai, benches with cushions, and comfortable marine beanbags.
The ground floor passage provides access to a guest loo, storeroom, laundry, and two bedrooms. A separate pool cottage with an en-suite bedroom is nestled within the lush garden.
What is loadshedding? It refers to the temporary suspension of electricity provided by Eskom, South Africa's electricity provider, to reduce consumption and thereby the load on the national grid. To compensate, South African property owners are turning to solar power, inverters with backup batteries or in some cases generators to keep the power on, wherever feasible.
