The Purple Dog is a highly recommended property for self catering in Greyton for up to 6 guests visiting the Cape Overberg region.
A piece of peace, tucked away in the tranquil village of Greyton surrounded by the majestic mountains. Just 130km away from Cape Town, you'll find The Purple Dog; a neat, modern house, full of fresh character and flooded with light. The artistic interior mixes perfectly in keeping with its location.
Open the huge glass folding door as well as the complimentary bottle of wine from our area, relax and indulge in this wonderful getaway on the shady patio and look forward to lunch or dine mouth-watering beef fillet, great pizzas or good value traditional food such as lamb shanks and oxtail at cosy restaurants in the village.
The Purple Dog self-catering house offers three modern bedrooms and two bathrooms with all amenities for up to six guests. All bedrooms have excellent quality beds, linen and towels.
A spacious private garden with citrus trees and lovely mountain views will spoil your soul and make you wish to stay forever. Therefore, to really appreciate the beauty of the surroundings and to experience Greyton at its best, a two night stay is recommended.
If you enjoy cooking feel free to use all basics and relish the open plan, sun-kissed kitchen with a cooking island and a hobby chef's array of pots, pans and appliances. Buy your food at the Saturday morning market (you can get some homemade pesto, a variety of cheeses, delicious pastries, biltong, diverse veggies, jams, herbs and lemon juice and definitely don't miss the pancakes with lemon curd) or at the well-stocked supermarket). Or make use of the boma-style braai area which is an invitation to entertain your family and friends all year round.
• Fully equipped modern open plan kitchen with large cooking island
• Fridge / freezer

We are very proud to offer our guests a great solar/inverter/battery system to run the fridge, freezer, lights and WIFI.
There is a load shedding “indicator” next to the fridge where the stove on/off switch is. If the light is on, there is power, if it's not there is load shedding.
Kindly do not to use any “hungry” appliances such as the dishwasher, the washing machine and the hair dryers during load shedding as this will drain the battery unnecessary.
Great outdoor activities such as walking and mountain biking are highly recommend. Many of the Cape Epic riders consider Greyton as one of the best MTB territory in South Africa (in 2014 Greyton was included as one of the stages). The trails range from family friendly to more strenuous. As outdoor lovers ourselves we provide maps and a water hose outside for cyclists to clean their bikes after a ride in the beautiful mountains.
What is loadshedding? It refers to the temporary suspension of electricity provided by Eskom, South Africa's electricity provider, to reduce consumption and thereby the load on the national grid. To compensate, South African property owners are turning to solar power, inverters with backup batteries or in some cases generators to keep the power on, wherever feasible.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Purple Dog. It's a great choice for a stay in Greyton, especially if you want the freedom of staying in a fully equipped home instead of a hotel or guest house. The house is eclectically furnished with amazing local artwork. We particularly enjoyed relaxing on the patio which overlooks the garden. Self check-in was easy and communication from the hosts was excellent at all times.
