About The Stanford Hotel
Stanford is a delightful historic village found in the Cape Overberg. A mere 90 minutes from Cape Town it is the perfect weekend destination. The Klein River is one of Stanford's main attractions along with its extensive bird life. There are several wine farms in the area, a micro brewery, The Kleinriver Cheese farm with its international award winning gruyer cheese, and several award winning bistros and restaurants.

Pets
Well-behaved pets can stay by arrangement in the Sixpence Cottage and due to the central location of the cottage, it is only a 3 minute walk to the river and your furkids will have the time of their lives! Stanford itself has a wandelpad all along the river, but if you're looking for pet-friendly hikes and beach walks, we can advise you where to go.
Oom Steyn's - The oldest pub in Stanford
Built in the late 1890's the pub has a great deal of history attached to it. It is now only open for private functions with the hotel's beautiful interleading dining room. The pub has its own private beer garden and braai area and is a popular choice for birthday celebrations.
Activities
Stanford is famous in the birding world for having the most species of birds in one place – if you are a twitcher make sure that you bring your binoculars!
Stanford also boasts a wine route with some of the Western Cape's finest wines; spend a Saturday exploring the various wine farms and have lunch at one of them. Birkenhead Brewery offers tasting of their locally brewed beer and you can also visit Kleinriver Cheese Farm to taste and buy their internationally acclaimed and award winning cheese.
The Klein River runs through Stanford Village. Kayaking, swimming or cruising on this river is an absolute must do activity. The African Queen River boat can be hired for numbers of around 30 pax. Platanna River Cruises takes smaller groups. Drifting down stream on a lilo is, however, the most perfect way to enjoy The Klein River!

The main bedroom has a double antique brass bed, Restassured mattress with crisp white 100% cotton linen and a down duvet, a vintage dressing table and wardrobe. Well-behaved pets may stay by arrangement and due to the central location of the cottage, only a 3 minute walk to the river, your furkids will have the time of their lives. Stanford itself has a wandelpad all along the river, but if you're looking for pet-friendly hikes and beach walks, we can advise you where to go. There is also secure parking; perfect for boats, kayak trailers and fully kitted 4×4's, a small braai that belongs to the cottage and a bench located under the old Milkwood tree that shades a large section of the garden.

We loved the Stanford hotel. Our room was very comfortable and clean and the location of the hotel was perfect. The manager was very accommodating and allowed us check out when we wanted too.
