The Travelling Tortoise Campsites is a highly recommended property for self catering in De Rust for anyone visiting the Karoo region.

About The Travelling Tortoise Campsites

The Travelling Tortoise Campsites are ideal for families looking for a peaceful beak away in a remote location. This is the ideal place for a weary traveler to visit and wind down. Do as the tortoise does – wind down slowly.

Accommodation

The six campsites are set within the Karoo bush. Each site have a clean drinking water point, and shade. Two sites have power points but because we are off the grid power is limited to small appliances.

For those who prefer to steer clear of the wind and rain, why not cosy up in the sanctuary of a substantial shell. The Torthouse is furnished with a double bed and makes use of the campsite ablution facilities. There is a small kitchenette with a fridge and outside there is a gas burner and braai.

On Site Facilities

There is a large communal braai, but campers can braai on their own site. The ablution block is close to all the sites. The large swimming pool, a must in the Karoo summer, is on the site.

Terence The Travelling Tortoise has returned from his travels, and will greet you at the gate. Children can sit on his back and he will take them up the track – albeit slowly.

Come and enjoy Turtle beach – a first in the Karoo, white sand, palm trees and cousins of the tortoise in the pond. Got to be seen to be believed.

There is an adventure playground with a zipline.

Pets

Pets are welcome by prior arrangement only. Pets are not to be left alone. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times. Pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.

Attractions

Nearby attractions include the spectacular Meiringspoort Pass with its waterfall, The Cango Wildlife Ranch and ostrich show farms in Oudtshoorn and the world famous Cango Caves.
