Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary is a property for self catering in Tsitsikamma for anyone visiting the Sunshine Coast region.
Stay in a rustic wood cabin in the Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary and experience the spine-tingling howl of wolves. Set in the beautiful Tsitsikamma area of South Africa, The Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary provides a home and safe haven for unwanted and abused wolves and wolf dogs. Nestled between the mountains, Elands River, pine plantations and indigenous forest, this is the oldest wolf sanctuary in South Africa.
Accommodation at Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary is offered in two rustic wooden cabins, each with a double bed. We provide blankets and bedding. Summer months can bring mosquitoes, so we can provide you with a mosquito net, upon request. The two cabins are separated by the bathroom with a bath only, shared between the two cabins. We don't double book, so no sharing with strangers.
There is a gas geyser supplying hot water at all times. Guests have access to a self-catering bush kitchen, which is in its own free-standing cabin. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, gas stove, and basic cutlery and crockery for preparing your own food. There is also a braai area and fire pit to enjoy the pleasant summer evenings.
During peak season, the space outside the cabins is a communal space during the day, from 09h00 to 16h00, where it doubles up as a visitor's area with a seasonal café, serving drinks and something light to eat. After 16h00 the space is private with no other Sanctuary day-visitor interference. We aim to be eco-conscious and live in harmony with nature by striving for self-sustainability. Where we can, we aim to reduce, re-use and recycle. Help yourself to the seasonal herbs and vegetables growing in the gardens. We are also on solar power, therefore please be conscious when using electricity.
Please note that accommodation includes day tours at R300pp. Meat is meat, and wolves must eat. This is something to take into account when staying at a fully operational wolf sanctuary. There may be the occasional smell of meat in the air although we take extra precautions to keep their enclosures clean. If you're lucky, you may also see their next meal arriving on the back of a trailer. All their food arrives already dead, so no killing of any animals take place at the Sanctuary, don't worry. We process the meat at the Sanctuary but not in open view. Most of the Sanctuary residents are all vegan anyway!
What is loadshedding? It refers to the temporary suspension of electricity provided by Eskom, South Africa's electricity provider, to reduce consumption and thereby the load on the national grid. To compensate, South African property owners are turning to solar power, inverters with backup batteries or in some cases generators to keep the power on, wherever feasible.
