The village of Hluhluwe is in the heart of Zululand on South Africa’s east coast, home to the Zulu kings Dingiswayo and Shaka, who allegedly prompted the very first conservation laws and the oldest game reserve in the country - the Hluhluwe and Umfolozi Game Reserve, established in 1895. From Johannesburg
From Johannesburg take the N2 south, past Ogies, Ermelo, Piet Retief, Pongola & Mkuze. Take the Hluhluwe off-ramp from the N2 and turn left to the town. Drive straight through Hluhluwe town with the shops on the left (go straight over all 4 traffic circles). At the end of town turn right by ‘Alan’s Butchery’ also signed towards Bushlands Resorts. You are now on a dirt road. After approx. 6km from Hluhluwe Bonamanzi is the first turning to the left.
From Durban
From Durban take the N2 north past Stanger, Empangeni, Mtubatuba, Charters Creak, over the Nyalazi River and over the Hluhluwe river. Take the Bushlands off-ramp from the N2 and turn right over the N2. You are now on a dirt road. After 2.5km you reach a junction - turn left. Bonamanzi is the second turning on the right.
