Gouda is a little village just 37 km south of Porterville, at the western entrance to the Nuwekloof Pass that links Tulbagh to Wellington. The town does not produce or, in fact, have anything to do with cheese. The only Gouda you will find here, is in the local supermarket. Take the N1 out of Cape Town, heading in the direction of Paarl. Take the Stellenbosch / Wellington off ramp, turn left in the direction of Wellington (R44). Drive straight with the R44 into Wellington. At the first traffic light in Wellington turn left, sign reads R44 Porterville. Drive straight for approximately 45km, passing Hermon. You will then get a turn-off to the left, sign reads R44 Gouda / Porterville. Turn left and drive for approximately 11km heading in the direction of Porterville. You will see the Buffalo Drift sign board on the left hand side of the road, come through the gates and follow the signs to the Lodge Office. This drive should take no longer than 1 hour and 10 minutes.
