Food was good and staff friendly and clearly trying hard, but the facilities are sorely overdue for an upgrade or refurbishment - doors with no handles, doors that don't close, toilets that didn't flush, wobbly wooden decks and frankly dangerously unstable hand railing (given it is perched on a steep cliff!). Unsurprising therefore that they had to offer special discount packages to attract customers, and on that basis was probably fair value. The game guides were great and the animal density and variety at Madikwe is one of the best we have experienced over the years. No doubt a wonderful lodge when it was built 20 years ago but now somewhat run down.

We stayed here for two nights, the lodge has a rustic decor, the dining area is simple, the rooms are as pictured but could use a refresh. WiFi is only available in the main building and fully board means there are three meals a day, coffee, tea and water are included. All other drinks, including those on the game drives, must be paid for. Price-performance wasn't ok for us. The ranger was experienced and had a lot of information for us. On our departure day we skipped the morning drive and announced this in advance. Unfortunately the staff was unable to provide us with a full breakfast and/or hot drinks at 7:30am. We recommend the Mahdikwe Game Reserve, but not the Buffalo Ridge Lodge
