The town of Nigel, directly south of Springs and Brakpan, lies in what is known as the East Rand, south east of Johannesburg. As with many of the little outlying towns out this way, Nigel began as a gold mining town in the late 1800s, named, not after anyone particularly famous but instead for a book the prospector, Sir Walter Scott, happened to be reading at the time they discovered gold ... cont.

From OR Tambo International Airport, head south for 800 m, then take the R21 south off-ramp to Boksburg.
After travelling 300 m, take the right turn at the fork and merge onto the R21.
Continue for 7.9 km.
Turn right onto Rondebult Road and continue for 6.6 km.
Merge onto the N17 via the off-ramp to Boksburg / Springs.
Continue for 18.7 km.
Take Exit 155 for the M63 towards Springs/Kwa Thema/Tonk Meter Way and continue for 900 m.
Turn left onto Tonk Meter Drive/M63.
Continue for 1.5 km.
Take the first left onto Coaton Avenue/M63.
Continue for 1.4 km.
Turn left onto Nigel Road.
Goldfields Lodge will be situated on your left-hand side.
