Prince Albert had its origins in 1762 when a loan farm named Kweeckvalleij "the valley of cultivation and plenty" was established in a green and fertile valley at the foot of the awesome Swartberg Mountains. From Cape Town:
Take the N1 to Laingsburg. Roughly 80km past Laingsburg turn right at Prince Albert Road.
From Johannesburg:
Take the N1 to Beaufort West. Roughly 80 km past Beaufort West turn left at Prince Albert Road.
• From Prince Albert Road Station drive 45km to Prince Albert
• As you head into town you will pass a Spar on your left
• Take the next left. There is a Karoo Khaya signboard on the corner. Take the short gravel road to the black gate. Come inside or give a hoot!

Drive to Oudshoorn. From Oudshoorn you have two options:
• Through Meiringspoort - take the road to Beaufort West. This takes you to De Rust and then through Meiingspoort. Just after Klaarstroom take the (signposted) left turn to Prince Albert. From here it is 53km to Prince Albert. Drive through town. Turn right into Sonskyn Road. There is a Karoo Khaya sign on the corner. Take the short gravel road to the black gate. Come inside or give a hoot!
• Swartberg Pass - take the Cango Caves road towards Calitzdorp. Take the Swartberg Pass / Prince Albert turn off and go over the Swartberg Pass. This route is slightly shorter, but takes the same length of time, as the Swartberg is a gravel road that needs to be taken at a slow speed. But it is well worth it – the pass is spectacular.
At the end of the pass you will come to a T-junction. Take a left and drive through town. Turn right into Sonskyn Road. There is a Karoo Khaya sign on the corner. Take the short gravel road to the black gate. Come inside or give a hoot!
