As its name intended, the little town of Vredendal, which borders on the southern tip of the Namaqualand region, is named after a peace settlement that brought harmony between two sparring parties. From Cape Town along the N7, turn left at Klawer. Follow the R363 at Klawer and continue straight through until you reach Vredendal. On reaching the traffic lights in Vredendal, drive on straight on the R363 leading out of Vredendal in the direction of Lutzville / Strandfontein. You will pass beneath the renowned Saldanha / Sishen railway bridge after which Melkboomsdrift Lodge is situated on your right.
If you enter Vredendal from the R362 (from Vanrhynsdorp side) continue straight through until you reach the traffic light intersection and turn right to follow the R363 towards Lutzville.
