In the land of the baobab lies a town in the northernmost section of the country, called Musina. Just 15 kilometres north of the little town that used to be known as Messina is the Beitbridge Border Post that serves the boundary with Zimbabwe. Travel on the N1 North highway to Polokwane (formally Pietersburg), through four tolls totaling about R85.
We suggest the best place to stop for fuel and refreshment is The Star Stop – The Ranch, 20km before Polokwane.
On entering Polokwane, turn left at the second traffic light and follow Nelson Mandela Drive round the town.
At the seventh traffic light, turn right at the sign R521 DENDRON.
The next traffic light turn left onto the R521 to Dendron Road .
Proceed along this road for 140km to Alldays. At the STOP sign in Alldays turn right onto the R521 to Pontdrif.
Travel for 46km towards Pontdrif and turn right onto the R572 towards Mapungubwe & Musina.
Mopane Bush Lodge is 29km along the R572 on right just past the cell phone mast.
Turn into Mapesu Ranch and follow the signs to Mopane Bush Lodge. To open the gate, press the button on the pole on the right. The gate closes automatically behind you.
Total distance from Johannesburg to Mopane Bush Lodge is about 540km, all tarred.
Gravel road to lodge is about 3km.
