A truly wonderful place to stay! The Room we had was fantastic, the bathroom top notch, the people very friendly and we will never forget the Jacuzzi from which you can watch the zebras and ostriches! The Rothman Manor also has a well kept swimming pool, which we could not use because it really was too cold. The buildings are very well maintained/restored Cape Dutch Architectural houses and the garden is lovely. This was one of the places would we have known about it in advance we would have planned to stay longer.

We booked the XL-Suite and weren't disappointed! Close to 1000sq. ft occupying the top floor of one of the buildings and tastefully decorated. A large dining room, small kitchen with fridge, huge bathroom with lovely whirlpool and a nice big bedroom with balcony overlooking the saltwater pool down below. The breakfast was of high quality and Andreas and his wife were great hosts. The room wasn't quite ready when we arrived (just before lunch time) and so he invited us to leave our luggage upstairs and recommended the Old Mill Guest House across the street for lunch. We used the pool and walked around the grounds, as down at the bottom of the garden is a nature reserve with zebras, springbok, ostriches and the like. There is also a jacuzzi outside on a wooden deck with views over the reserve although we didn't use this. There was a computer connected to the internet in the communal area and free wireless connection for those who were looking to look up tourist information or just keep in touch. Breakfast is usually offered outside under the oak tree but it was raining while we were there so it was offered inside instead. A superb selection of pastries, cereals and cooked items. When we checked out we told Andreas we had enjoyed a bottle of wine and some soft drinks from the minibar and he said we were welcome to them and hope we enjoyed our stay. Kudos!

This was our 2nd visit to this exquisite 5-star guest lodge in Swellendam - ideally situated for a one or preferably two-night stop-over being around 2 hours out of Cape Town airport just off the N2 motorway along the Garden Route. The owners Andreas & Franzisca maintain the property to exacting standards with all the guest rooms being very clean, light & comfortable - and the grounds are superb with a lovely pool area, a lake and gardens plus a small selection of animals in an adjoining field. Take a leisurely breakfast in the garden under a spreading chestnut tree or enjoy sundowners on your patio by the side of the lake. First-class, friendly unobtrusive service from the owners - a truly relaxing place to chill out after a long overnight flight from the UK. Enjoy.
