The village of Hluhluwe is in the heart of Zululand on South Africa’s east coast, home to the Zulu kings Dingiswayo and Shaka, who allegedly prompted the very first conservation laws and the oldest game reserve in the country - the Hluhluwe and Umfolozi Game Reserve, established in 1895. Travel out of Hluhluwe on the R22 to Sodwana. +/-15km from railway crossing turn off the R22 onto P476 @ Zulu Croc tent (signboard towards Zulu Nyala and Heritage Safari Lodge). After 400m turn right at Umzinene farm road. After 600m road splits take left fork (just after the pond on right). This will take you between 2 game fences and end at a solar powered gate. Phone the lodge from there (they can open the gate remotely). Drive striaght along this road to a big tree in the middle of the road and derelict shed on right. Follow Rd left at the big tree. At T junction turn right around the front of the farm house then on turn left down hill away from farm house. 150m further you reach the large black gate into electrified game fence. After going through the gate, turn right along the fence road and follow main track to camp.
