We had a very pleasant stay at The Homestead. Pennie went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The rooms are comfortable and the food was good. I will definitely recommend this lodge to friends and family.

Thankyou for a glorious stay at the Homestead. It was a walk down memory lane for me. We enjoyed the socializing after meal times. We will definitely return to the Homestead. May you have a prosperous year.

Hope you are well. i just wanted to thank you for an amazing weekend at the Homstead. its good to see that people really care about their business as you and your wife do. It was a great experience. After hearing your stories of how the homestead started and were it came from, it inspired me. I own a media company.I would like to help the Homestead get more guest and have a great time, the way we did. enjoy the simple life and meet you wonderful people.

The 20km of dirt road (usually in excellent condition) between Bergville and Geluksburg serves nicely to keep the SUV-and-sunglasses crowd away - to observe these in their native habitat you have to take the R600 towards Champagne Castle, where they cluster around the green deserts of their golf courses and chain hotels. No such pretence in Geluksburg at the Homestead, where Pennie and Ian like what they are doing, which is to offer value for money, without skimping on details and personal attention. Phil,Pennie's father built most of the rooms himself (and maintains the facilities), and Pennie feeds the guests from her massive kitchen, offering marvellous dinners and breakfasts. Placed within striking distance of the standard attractions of the northern and central Drakensberg, Geluksburg also has a secret up its sleeve - the Middledale pass to the northeast, which offers a completely unknown scenic 'Berg experience, with not a single SUV in sight - just peace, clean air, spectacular scenery and a tarred road back to Pennie's dining room. Our family fervently hopes that our latest (and third) visit will not be our last.
